Hello friends,
Things have been VERY busy over the last few weeks, with some very exciting stuff coming up!
Here’s what’s been going on…
Hello, instagram!
I revived my Instagram after leaving it dormant for 8 years (I know!). People rightfully complain about the time drain that social media can be, but honestly I’ve found it really inspiring to get back on. I’ve loved having the opportunity to see more of what other people are doing and to share some of my own fun/creative moments. If you’d like to connect you can find me at @alligatrrr . (And if you send me your handle, I’d love to follow you back!)
Come to the cabaret
My songwriting partner (Bella Barlow) and I have been putting SO much time and love into preparing for our upcoming cabaret at Crazy Coqs! If you’re on our email list for Barlow & Smith you have already been hearing loads about this, but I wanted to be sure to share it here too.
We’ve been exploring our back catalogue through the lens of Janie Dee’s Beautiful World cabaret series, and it’s made me look at some of our songs in a different light.
We have some absolutely incredible West End guests (pictured above) coming along to help us share them. We rehearsed together yesterday, and they absolutely blew me away!
I’m particularly excited about premiering a new song that no one has ever heard before, which we wrote specially for this cabaret.
This is our first London cabaret in more than seven years (and if you are noticing that this chimes roughly with when my Instagram also went quiet - and when I became a mother - you are correct!).
Given everything that’s happened over the past several years, this feels a little bit like a comeback. (Not that I’m putting that pressure on it - so perhaps homecoming would be a better word?)
It would mean SO much to have a big, warm crowd cheering us on, so if you can come along, please do join us!

Seeking the horizon
I’m also really delighted that I’ll have a poem printed in The Horizonary, which has been created by Simon Adamczewski, bringing together poetry and visual art.
I’ll be attending the opening night to read some poems (mostly my own, but also one by my friend Erica Hesketh, a brilliant writer whose debut collection In The Lily Room is coming out this month).
If you fancy some poetry with lovely people, it would be great to see you there!

At the moment, most of my energy is going into these live events, but we’ll soon be back to our regularly scheduled programming on this newsletter!
Sending you all lots of love for your own creative adventures in the meantime.
For now,
Alli
