I appreciate that technically it is not Autumn yet - however the start of the new school years has already ushered in a new era.
This past week we’ve been riding the heat wave of what feels like the last glorious gasp of summer. I’ve loved watching Rose running around in the splash pool with her friends. It’s felt like being on holiday/vacation without having to even go anywhere.
This summer marked a big milestone. I came to the end of my year of Olaparib - a treatment I was on to prevent recurrence. While I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to take this medication, and I am also unbelievably grateful to be done with it. They seem like such innocuous little pills - and after the ravages of chemo, it is easy by comparison. And yet, I only realised just how hard this was on my body and my energy when I got to stop. It has been a blessing to feel my body continuing to heal and recover.
Life comes in seasons. This is the start of a new chapter, in a number of ways.
That’s the beauty of a fresh start. Anything is possible.
What’s new
I’ve been writing, but have mostly kept things under wraps (which is always easier when you aren’t sure if things are ready to share!). But here’s a few tidbits that are finding their way to the light:
A post from last summer about oxygen masks (which, interestingly, I don’t feel nearly as much annoyance about now)
An update (not yet shared in this newsletter) from my ongoing collection where I write poems about words I recently learned (this edition: Hamartia!)
Good art friends
Some breathtaking photographs from my dear friend Julia Forsman of her family holiday
Cannot wait to see These Demons at Theatre503 by the brilliant Rachel Bellman
Very excited for my uber-talented friend Zak Edwards, currently rehearsing for his Broadway debut in Harmony!
For now,
Alli
